•There are gedung (pavilions) on the site represnting the different regencies in Bali. These are built in the styele of that particular regency. Among the highlights at the Bali Museum are:

•A carved stone main entrance.

•A ceremonial kori agung (stone capped gate) which is made from bricks (no cement) and volcanic stone reliefs.

•The elegant carved, gilded, palace doors, are from the 19th century. Stone sculptures from the 16th and 19th Centuries, line the veranda of the main pavilion. Ritual masks, musical instruments and puppets from the 19th century are on display. in the pavillion at the far left side of the museum.

Bali Trip : Kuta - Denpasar - Ubud - Taman Ayun Mengwi - Tanah Lot Expedition Day 4

Denpasar was the capital of the kingdom of Badung. It was conquered by the Dutch during the Dutch intervention in Bali (1906). The royal palace was looted and razed by the Dutch, leaving today's central square "Taman Puputan" in which a statue to the 1906 Puputan can be seen.

Denpasar has various attractions. The white sandy beaches are famous all over the island. Some of the famous surfing beaches are Kuta Beach, Legian Beach and Canggu Beach. Sanur beach has calmer waters and is excellent for sunbathing. Ten minutes from the Ngurah Rai International Airport lies the town of Kuta. Kuta is where most of the hotels, restaurants, malls, cafes, marketplaces, and spas that cater to tourists are located. In the Denpasar area, all kinds of beautiful Balinese handicrafts are represented in local shops. These include artwork, pottery, textiles, and silver. Bali is a haven for shoppers everywhere. The famous batik cloth is sold all over Denpasar. These bright sheets of cloth are as beautiful as they are cheap. Made of pure cotton with glorious patterns, Balinese batik is definitely a good buy. Sometimes batik cloth is made into wearable clothing such as a sarong or men's shirts. The jewelry district is in a town called Celuk which is 30 minutes away from Kuta. Here you will find rows and rows of silversmiths' and goldsmiths' shops selling jewellery at very low prices.

Ubud is a town on the Indonesian island of Bali in Ubud District, located amongst rice paddies and steep ravines in the central foothills of the Gianyar regency. One of Bali's major arts and culture centres, it has developed a large tourism industry.

Taman Ayun Temple Taman Ayun Temple is a Royal Temple of Mengwi Empire and it is located in Mengwi Village, Mengwi sub district, Badung regency and about 18 Km north side of Denpasar town. It is strategically located beside of major roadway between Denpasar to Singaraja. It is set on the land which is surrounded by the big fish pond and look like a drift on the water. It owns the beautiful temple building with multistoried roof and Balinese Architecture. The wide beautiful landscape garden in front courtyard to welcome all visitors who come and visit this temple. It is a beautiful place to visit on your vacation in Bali.

Tanah Lot Temple is located in coastal side of Beraban countryside, Kediri sub district and Tabanan Regency. It is situated in 30 Km in west side of Denpasar town and about 11 Km in south side of Tabanan town. The temple is built on the rock with 3 acre size and reachable in a few minute by walk, because it is just 20 meters from the coastal lip. This temple is very famous among tourist destinations in Bali with spectacular view of sunset. At some nooks of coral reef around Tanah Lot Temple there are holy tame snake in black and white color where according to the local society believe that it as a deity property and as the guard of the temple from the bad influence.

The word of Tanah Lot is consisted of two words that are Tanah word interpreted as a reef looking like gili or isle. Lot or Lod word has meaning the sea. So Tanah Lot is meaning the small island floating on the sea. The location is now called as Tanah Lot has been used at a Megalithic period as a place that looked into holy, proven from the existence of menhir. Pursuant to environmental condition, hence the structure of Tanah Lot Temple is built at irregular reef plain of its angle which is only consisted of one plain yard as Jeroan.

Bali Trip :More Exploring Legian, Seminyak and Poppies lane 2 - Day 3

l

Maha Brata Hotel is located at Legian Road with is just a walking distance from the junction of Popies lane 2. That is how Imogen and I found the hotel at the first place when we arrived.

Legian Road or Jalan Legian is the main street that runs north-south from Kuta to Seminyak on the island of Bali in Indonesia.Legian Road contains a variety of shops, bars, hotels and dance clubs. Its proximity to the beach and its prominent night life make it host to thousands of tourists. Legian is notorious for shopping and partying, with many areas offering traditional market shopping where shop owners are amenable to haggling and usually give shoppers an initial inflated price.
Legian is one of the cheaper locations after dark and the road will begin to get busy at 11pm, peaking in traffic around 1 or 2 in the morning before easing down again around 4:30am. With such a cluster of hotels, shops and bars around Legian, the street can experience intense amounts of traffic. It can take up to 10 or 15 minutes to move forward 1 mile during some rush hours.

Bali Trip :Exploring Kuta - Popies Lane 2 - Legian Roas, Kuta Beach Road- Day 2

Today is exploration of Kuta town. From the Internet I found that, Kuta is administratively a district (kecamatan) and subdistrict/village (kelurahan) in southern Bali, Indonesia. A former fishing village, it was one of the first towns on Bali to see substantial tourist development, and as a beach resort remains one of Indonesia's major tourist destinations. It is known internationally for its long sandy beach, varied accommodation, many restaurants and bars, and many renowned surfers who visit from Australia. It is located near Bali's Ngurah Rai Airport.

Poppies Lane 2 is a popular place to stay, eat and shop in Kuta. The traffic is unrelenting because the alley is wide enough for cars to get all the way from the Beach Road to Legian St.

There’s a wide range of accommodation to choose from ranging from 30,000 a nite up to 375,000 rupiah.

Shops line both sides of the street and you will get a barrage of “massage?” “sunglass?” “rolex?” and you just have to be lighthearted and laugh it off if you are not interested. The salespeople are only doing their job so it’s best not to get aggravated.

Poppies is easy to find from Legion Street. Just past the Bali Memorial going with the one way traffic you turn right.

There is always a traffic jam at that corner so watch your feet that they don’t get run over by a motorbike or taxi.

Bali Trip :Ngurah Rai International Airport - Day 1

Arrived at the Ngurah Rai Airport almost 930pm. Straight to Poppy Lane 2. Found a Guest House called maha Brata Hotel which is located at Legian Road not very far from the Bali Monument.

Ngurah Rai International Airport (IATA: DPS, ICAO: WADD), also known as Denpasar International Airport, is located in southern Bali, 13 km south of Denpasar. It is named after I Gusti Ngurah Rai, an Indonesian National Hero killed in the Battle of Marga during the Indonesian Revolution.Ngurah Rai is Indonesia's third-busiest international airport, after Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport and Surabaya's Juanda International Airport. The airport is located close to the extensive tourist developments of southern Bali; the resort center of Kuta is 2.5 km north of the airport.

The taxi fare is about IDR20,000.
